Our latest instalment of our Getting to grips with Cyber Essentials video series is now available to watch. We have been working with our Trusted Partners to produce a 6-part video series to educate businesses in the South East on Cyber Essentials and why businesses should become Cyber Essentials certified.

In the last 12 months, the average cost of cyber security breaches for small businesses is estimated to be at £8,460. That is a significant amount for any business, let alone small businesses that have just faced a year like no other.

The good news is that there are some basic steps businesses can take to make their employees and systems more secure. The fifth instalment of our video series focuses on Malware and how businesses can help spot the signs of malicious activity and keep themselves out of the paths of cyber criminals.

Malware is a term for any type of malicious software designed to harm or exploit any programmable device, service or network. Cybercriminals typically use it to extract data that they can leverage over victims for financial gain. That data can range from financial data, to healthcare records, to personal emails and passwords.

Malware encompasses all types of malicious software, including viruses, and cybercriminals use it for many reasons, such as:

  • Tricking a victim into providing personal data for identity theft

  • Stealing consumer credit card data or other financial data

  • Assuming control of multiple computers to launch denial-of-service attacks against other networks

  • Infecting computers and using them to mine bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies

Watch our latest instalment to learn the basic things you can do to help secure your business by learning to protect it from Malware.
