SECRC Advisory Group welcomes two new members

We are delighted to announce two new members who have joined the SECRC Advisory Group. The group will provide the SECRC with guidance, advice and influence the direction of the Centre, welcome to Tom Chapman, Deputy Head of Southampton Business School and Director of Postgraduate Programmes at the University of Southampton and Evan Jones, Lead Security Architect at EHJ & SJ Consultancy.

Tom Chapman, Deputy Head of Southampton Business School and Director of Postgraduate Programmes at the University of Southampton

Tom is the Deputy Head of Southampton Business School and Director of Postgraduate Programmes. Tom has nearly 15 years’ experience of higher education with specific interests in digital marketing and the use of technology within higher education delivery mechanisms. Prior to his career in higher education, Tom held positions with Hampshire Constabulary, Dixons Stores group and SME enterprises.

Tom has also held the position of Associate Dean (Enterprise and Employability) in the Faculty, as well as Head of Department, and Head of School at other Universities in the UK.

His current role assumes overall responsibility for ensuring compliance of the Southampton Business School’s educational activity within quality assurance frameworks as well as the promotion and development of the business schools education strategy across its Postgraduate programmes.

On joining the South East Cyber Resilience Centre Advisory Group, Tom said: ““We never cease to be amazed by the speed at which the Internet and the services that are facilitated by it, expand and become part of our daily lives. The more we embrace such technologies and services, the greater the risk that others will attempt to exploit such advances for their own gains. I am delighted to be part of the CRC. The ability to assist and link with higher education, business, government and the public in such an endeavour brings enormous pride and challenge ahead.”

Evan Jones, Lead Security Architect at EHJ & SJ Consultancy

Evan entered the field of engineering having undertaken an MEng in Electronics, he then joined London Underground under the TfL graduate programme working on Control & IT systems across an aged IT and control system infrastructure. This is where Evan was introduced into the field of Cyber Security when delivering capital upgrade projects for enhancing the Signalling Control systems back some 10 years ago.

Since leaving the Railway behind, Evan set out to establish a boutique consultancy aimed at offering security architecture and security consultancy services and has since had the pleasure in working in many areas through interaction with Clients in the finance, insurance, critical Infrastructure and e-commerce/retail sectors.

Specialising in Cloud, Enterprise and Application security are the key areas that Evan enjoys and has recently began looking into defence tactics to further aid businesses in supporting themselves in an ever-changing landscape.

When asked about joining the SECRC Advisory Group, Evan said: “Having identified the teams in the North of England offering support and guidance in cyber through the networks that had formed, this immediately appealed to me and I got in touch with the SECRC team to understand if I could be of service to helping others out there on matters relating to cyber. I’m looking forward to being a part of something that means I can give back to a community that has helped me to get where I have and hopefully help people in better protecting themselves in the digital space.”
