The South East Cyber Resilience Centre (SECRC) is pleased to announce Nick Tuppen, one of the Global Information Security Leads for the Bank of America as their newest Board Member.

The SECRC Board will play a crucial role in reviewing the direction and progress of the SECRC as it seeks to help improve cyber security for SME’s and wider organisations across the South East region.

Nick joined Bank of America in 2011 and has worked in cyber threat intelligence, external engagement, business and client engagement and governance, risk and compliance. He is currently the international lead for the bank’s Cyber Crime Protection team.

Nick is the industry secretary for the UK finance sector cyber resilience steering committee and has represented the sector at the G7 Cyber Experts Group. More recently he has been accepted onto the National Economic Crime Centre’s Public Private Operational Board. Prior to joining the bank, Nick served 18 years in the British Army.

When asked about his appointment to the SECRC Board, Nick said: “I am delighted to join the SECRC Board; a great initiative uniting UK policing, public and private sectors to help local business enhance their cyber resilience and better serve the communities in which they work.” Commenting on the appointment, Director of SECRC Justin Torgout said: “I’m delighted to welcome Nick to the SECRC board. Nick is an incredibly experienced cyber security professional within the finance sector, who is working at the highest level to better protect a global bank from the threat posed by cyber criminals.

“Last year, according to Accenture, the cost of cyber attacks in the banking industry was 18.3 million per company. This is quite a frightening figure, so to have Nick working with the SECRC to aid the delivery of support and guidance for other banks and financial institutions is imperative."

The SECRC is an innovative not for profit partnership between policing, academia and private industry, committed to helping protect businesses in the South East region from cybercrime.

The SECRC joins a growing network of regional centres being established as part of a national roll out to provide businesses of all sizes with access to affordable cyber security services, the latest advice and support from leading law enforcement and industry experts and help them take simple steps to protect their business from unscrupulous cyber criminals.

The SECRC offers a range of membership options to businesses in the region including a free Core Membership for businesses with fewer than 50 employees. Sign up on the website today to access cyber security support, guidance, and tools.
